About the City

Detroit is one of the most popular US cities. It is the largest city on the US-Canadian border and is over 142.8 sq. miles around. The city has a Detroit Moraine clay ridge, which is the signature feature of the city. It is the main city in Southeast Michigan and is known for its diverse culture. The city is full of historic revelations, theatres and a number of entertainment spots which makes it an attractive place to visit.

Population

Detroit has over 6.5 million people living in its confines of which more than 4.3 million live in the metropolitan area alone. Most of Detroit is African American. However, people from other ethnicity contribute equal shares including the White, Non-Hispanic, Hispanic and others. A major part of the population is Roman Catholic, however, there are Jews, Protestants, and Muslims amid other religions as well. Plus, many Muslims come to visit the beautiful city regularly.

Facts About The City

Back in 2004, Detroit was the largest establishment of Middle Eastern people. In 2007, Detroit was the largest hub of the Arabs in all of United States. Surprisingly, the population of the city is declining instead of rising. The current population demographics in 2017 show a similar population of the city as in 1910. However, the economic state of the city is shaky. Jobs are few and crime rate is still abundant.

Besides these details, Detroit is home to some amazing architecture. It was named the City of design in 2015 by UNESCO. It is also considered the 21st most populous city in the United States of America. The weather in Detroit is more of a tropical weather. Most of the year it is hot and humid, but there are cold spells with an occasional drop in temperature to the freezing point. See Detroit Map.
