Chorba Frik Recipe
Shorba Frik or Chorba Frik recipe is one of the most famous Algerian soups. It uses lamb, cilantro, chickpeas and tomato paste as main ingredients and onions, tomatoes, bay leaves, black pepper and other spices add tasteful value to the recipe. Enjoy it this Ramadan in your iftar menu or otherwise you would miss the prime taste of Algerian cuisine.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Frik (green cracked wheat)
- 5 pieces Lamb Meat (medium size pieces or what suits your taste)
- 1/2 cup Chopped Cilantro
- 1 piece Large Onion whole onion
- 1 piece Celery Stalk (with leaves)
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 tbsp Dried Mint
- 3 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 1 piece Bay Leaf (not necessary)
- as per taste Salt
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tbsp Vegetable Butter
- 8 cup Water
Instructions

In a cooking pot, add one tablespoon of butter, oil and the 5 pieces of lamb; saute over low heat for 2 minutes.
Because when you saute meat with oil and butter it makes it more delicious.
In the image I didn’t cut the meat into pieces, because I cut it after cooking.

After 2 minutes add grated onion, 3 tomatoes, tomato paste and half the cilantro leaves not all of them.

Add chickpeas. Then add salt, black pepper, paprika and bay leaf.
Saute over low heat for about 5 m with stirring

After 5 minutes pour hot water and increase the heat a little bit to bring to a boil.

When you see it boiling reduce heat and add the "Frik" (after washing it) and stir regularly to avoid Frik from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Let it boil for about 45 minutes and till that time, you will get a medium thick soup, then add the remaining cilantro and the dried mint.

Serve the soup on iftar table and enjoy with all your family members.
